Just Like Home   I love going out to dinner, but it takes on a whole new meaning when you have four little mouths to feed. When we are at home, I give them a main course, a vegetable, a fruit and a carbohydrate. I actually freak out when they don't have something green. I know, it sounds crazy, but I want them to develop these habits now. Im not one of these parents that allow their kids to refuse even the presence of a vegetable on their plate. It is going on the plate whether they like it or not. Turns out they do. Yes, at birthday parties and other peoples homes (i.e. grandparents), my kids live it up and I allow it. I cant control everything, but I can and do make sure they get healthy food when they are with me. So, when we decide to go out, you know what comes next. I want chicken fingers!, I want grilled cheese!, I want a hamburger!, and I want a good glass of wine! (my husband). Incidentally, this particular list of must-haves actually rules out almost every place I can think of. Almost being the key word. What we find at Cafe Express is the perfect solution. The kids get their fast-food fix, I get to feel great about what I am feeding them and they have a formidable wine selection. Having all of these components in place, we feel right at home - I set the table (yes, I get strange looks from other patrons), order a couple of items off the kids menu, order a side of something green, order something red (wine - no, the kids don't get any), order the fruit and sweet potato fries and off to the Oasis Table we go. The best thing is that we can occupy the kids with bread sticks and garbanzo beans while one of us stands in line.
